Baby (doll) mama.

Yesterday, I took Lorelai shopping for her first baby doll. She has dolls, but they're all of the all-soft, made-for-babies variety, and she's been showing a lot of interest in those and in other kids' baby dolls (and in real babies) lately, so I thought it was time for an upgrade.

I never thought I would get such a kick out of doll shopping. I never played with dolls as a kid -- I had a Cabbage Patch Kid, but I usually preferred stuffed animals for snuggling and My Little Ponies for playing -- and had never really planned to encourage it in my daughter, but since she's shown the interest, I'm on board.

It's the first time I've ever really gone toy shopping for her. Usually when I buy her toys, they're consignment finds or small impulse buys. All the big planned purchases have been made by grandparents. Which is great! I'm certainly not complaining! But it was fun to take her to Target and see how excited she got at all "the babies!!!" in the doll aisle, and to let her help pick out her own baby. There were a lot of accessories I didn't get -- a doll-sized pack 'n play, a diaper bag set -- that I'm really tempted to go back for because I just think she will get such a kick out of them.

I never expected to have a daughter who was into dolls, but I tell you what. Watching Lorelai carry around her baby and give her kisses? Is pretty much my favorite thing ever right now.

Aili has that exact same doll! It was the doll she was pushing in her stroller!! I highly suggest purchasing the stroller, she loves taking her in and out. So cute!

I think that's a lot of fun! I was all about the dollies when I was little. Actually, I don't think I gave it up until aboiut age 12, which is probably too old, but who cares? And? I only really gave it up because people started letting me hold their REAL babies. I always wanted all those cool accessories like the pack 'n play or the strollers or other things, so I think you're a pretty cool mom for getting her those things.

That's what made me think to get it for her, was seeing Aili pushing hers around! I got the doll + stroller set, she's been having a blast pushing Baby all over the house and the neighborhood.

Yes, I HATED dolls (other than my cabbage patch kid) when I was younger. Specifically barbies, because their hair is a disgusting tangled mess about 8 seconds after you take them out of the box. It's SO FREAKING CUTE watching my girls play with them though. Even Lucy will hug her doll and pat her on the back. And then I die.
